The day East African logistics changed For decades, coordinating a shipment across East Africa has meant juggling five WhatsApp groups, a spreadsheet that nobody trusts, three phone calls to a freight forwarder who is probably driving, and a prayer that the proof of delivery arrives before your accountant chases you for it. Today, that changes. Logistics & Beyond is live - and it is unlike anything the East African logistics industry has seen before.
What is Logistics & Beyond?
Logistics & Beyond is East Africa's first full-stack logistics marketplace. Not a directory. Not a single-role tool. Not another tracking app with no connection to the rest of your supply chain.
A true end-to-end platform that brings every stakeholder in the logistics ecosystem into one shared, transparent, digital workspace.
That means:
- Logistics Managers who ship goods post orders and receive competitive bids from verified freight forwarders in hours—not days.
- Freight Forwarders who have spent years chasing cargo through referrals and cold calls can now access a live feed of shipments matching their expertise and capacity.
- Transporters who watch their trucks drive back empty from Mombasa to Nairobi can now pick up a confirmed return load before they leave the yard.
- Warehouse Managers with underutilised space can list their capacity and connect with incoming shipments that need storage—turning empty bays into revenue.
- Customers and consignees receive automatic, real-time updates on their cargo without needing to chase anyone.
All five roles. One platform. One dashboard. One shared view of the truth.
Why We Built It
The East African logistics market is worth over $50 billion annually. The Northern Corridor—the artery connecting Mombasa to Nairobi, Kampala, Kigali, and Juba—carries 80 percent of the region's trade.
And yet, the coordination technology underpinning most of that trade is WhatsApp.
We spoke to over 200 logistics professionals across Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda before writing a single line of code. Here is what they told us:
- 78% manage shipments using a combination of WhatsApp, phone calls, and Excel
- 40% of trucks on major corridors return empty—a $1.2 billion coordination failure
- 64% have lost a shipment update because a driver changed phones
- 71% have had a customs delay caused by a documentation error
- 82% said they would switch to a digital platform if it covered their whole workflow—not just one part
The tools exist. The adoption has been lagging because every existing solution only solves one part of the problem. Shippers on one tool. Freight forwarders on another. Transporters using nothing. Warehouses on spreadsheets.
We built Logistics & Beyond to solve the whole problem—not one corner of it.
How It Works
1. A shipper posts an order
A logistics manager in Nairobi needs to move a container from Mombasa port to their warehouse in Kampala. They log in, create an order—cargo type, weight, dimensions, timeline, origin, destination—and publish it to the marketplace.
2. Freight forwarders bid competitively
Verified freight forwarders see the order and submit bids. Each bid is visible alongside the forwarder's portfolio: past shipments completed, average delivery time, customer ratings, and the specific corridors they cover. The shipper compares bids with full information—not just price.
3. Resources are assigned and tracking begins
The winning freight forwarder assigns the transport legs—pre-carriage from the factory to the port, main haul, and last-mile delivery to the final customer. Each transporter gets a digital job sheet. Every stakeholder sees the same live status.
4. Documents are generated automatically
Shipping instruction. Delivery order. Waybill. Warehouse receipt. Proof of delivery. Every document is generated from data already in the system—no retyping, no scanning, no lost paperwork.
5. Delivery confirmed and payment triggered
The driver uploads proof of delivery from their phone. The warehouse manager issues a digital receipt. The shipper confirms delivery. Payment is triggered. The job is done—documented, tracked, and closed.
From order creation to confirmed delivery: one platform.
What Makes Us Different
East Africa already has logistics tools. Here is why Logistics & Beyond is different from everything else available today:
Feature Traditional FFWs Single-role apps Logistics & Beyond All 5 stakeholder roles ❌ ❌ ✅ Competitive bidding ❌ ❌ ✅ Real-time tracking ❌ ✅ ✅ Document automation ❌ ❌ ✅ East Africa focus ❌ ❌ ✅ Warehouse integration ❌ ❌ ✅
No other platform in East Africa connects shippers, freight forwarders, transporters, and warehouse managers in a single workflow. That is not a feature. It is the entire point.
Who Is This For?
If you are any of the following, Logistics & Beyond was built specifically for you:
👉 You are a logistics manager at an importing or exporting company. You spend hours coordinating shipments across multiple freight forwarders, with no single view of what is happening and where. You want competitive pricing, real visibility, and less time on the phone.
👉 You are a freight forwarder based in Mombasa, Dar es Salaam, or Kampala. You have the expertise and the relationships. What you lack is a consistent pipeline of new shippers without the sales overhead. You want cargo to find you.
👉 You are a transporter running one truck or a fleet of twenty. You know the Northern Corridor like the back of your hand. What you do not know is how to fill your truck on the return trip. You want loads, not phone calls.
👉 You are a warehouse manager in an industrial area outside Nairobi or along the Dar es Salaam port corridor. Your facility is at 60% utilisation. You want it at 90%. You want clients to find you.
The East Africa Advantage
Logistics & Beyond is not a Western logistics platform adapted for Africa. It was conceived, designed, and built for East African logistics from day one.
That means:
- Local port integration – built around the realities of Mombasa and Dar es Salaam
- Cross-border by default – the platform natively handles the Northern Corridor and EAC cross-border documentation
- Mobile-first design – because your driver has a phone, not a laptop
- Swahili language support – because not every transporter on the Mombasa–Nairobi corridor communicates in English
- Local payment methods – including M-Pesa and regional bank transfers
